The engagement metrics for SMS campaigns are remarkable:

These numbers dramatically outperform email marketing, which typically sees only 20% open rates and 1-10% click-through rates.

The ROI potential is equally impressive. For every $1 invested in SMS marketing, businesses can expect returns of $21-40. This exceptional return makes SMS marketing particularly attractive for small businesses with limited marketing budgets.

Platforms like Textla offer reliable solutions with transparent pricing and advanced features, making SMS marketing accessible to businesses of all sizes.

The SMS marketing industry is projected to reach $12.6 billion by the end of 2025. Small businesses that adopt this powerful channel now will be well-positioned to engage customers, drive conversions, and generate substantial revenue while staying ahead of their competition.

2. Build and Manage Your Contact List

Building and managing your contact list is a critical aspect of effective marketing and customer engagement. To start, it's essential to build targeted lists based on factors such as demographics, interests, and purchasing behavior.

This segmentation allows you to tailor your messaging and offers to specific groups, increasing the relevance and effectiveness of your communications.

Contact collection methods can be implemented both online and offline:

3. Configure Your SMS Campaign

Setting up an effective SMS campaign involves careful planning and attention to detail. Start by determining your campaign schedule, segmenting your audience, and developing a content strategy that resonates with your subscribers.

Compliance and consent are crucial for campaign success:

Effective message crafting is essential. Keep messages under 160 characters to maximize engagement. Include your company name, customer name, offer details, and a compelling call-to-action (CTA).

Segment your audience based on engagement and purchase history for targeted messaging. Use personalization techniques like customer names and preferences to boost connection.

Create a diverse content strategy incorporating:

 • Welcome messages
 • Promotional offers
 • Product announcements
 • Visual elements and emojis where appropriate

Utilize automated workflows to streamline your campaigns. Schedule messages in advance to maintain consistency.

Remember to integrate your SMS marketing with other channels like email and social media for a cohesive marketing approach.

Best Practices for Effective SMS Marketing

Crafting engaging SMS messages is crucial for successful marketing campaigns. Messages should be kept under 160 characters to ensure high open rates.

Personalization is a key element of effective SMS marketing. Tailor your content to your subscribers' interests and provide exclusive offers not available through other channels to build trust and maintain engagement.

Timing and frequency play vital roles in campaign success. Key considerations include:

 • Send messages between 8 am and 9 pm
 • Maintain a balanced messaging frequency
 • Avoid overwhelming subscribers

Legal compliance is essential for SMS marketing. Always obtain explicit consent from subscribers through opt-in forms on your website or other channels. Include an easy opt-out option to comply with TCPA regulations.

Successful SMS campaign examples include:

To maximize your SMS marketing success, regularly monitor campaign performance through key metrics like open rates and click-through rates. Continuously refine your approach based on these insights to build stronger customer relationships and drive conversions

Common Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them

SMS marketing can be a powerful tool for businesses to connect with their customers, but it's essential to be aware of common pitfalls that can hinder your campaigns.

One of the most significant mistakes is sending too many messages, which can lead to message fatigue and increased spam complaints. To prevent this, find the right balance in messaging frequency based on your customers' preferences and industry norms.

Proper consent is crucial for SMS marketing success. Failing to obtain explicit consent can result in legal issues and damage your brand's reputation. Implement clear opt-in processes and provide easy opt-out options to maintain compliance and foster trust.

To enhance your SMS campaigns, focus on these key elements:

 • Creating personalized content that resonates with your audience
 • Segmenting subscribers based on preferences and behaviors
 • Using a friendly yet professional tone
 • Including clear CTAs that prompt immediate engagement

Data management and compliance should be top priorities. Invest in robust systems to protect your business and customers. Regularly review and update your SMS marketing practices to ensure adherence to the latest regulations and best practices.

By staying informed and proactive, you can minimize legal risks and maintain positive customer relationships

When our family bought an electric cargo bike earlier this year, one of my biggest fears was that this lovely and expensive new machine was going to get stolen. So I got the best lock money could buy, and I started to investigate: did I need ebike insurance?

First, I called my homeowners insurance provider to see if they would cover the bike if it were stolen. To my surprise, because it’s an electric bike, not only did my policy not cover it, they wouldn’t even add it for an additional fee or sell me a separate policy for it, the way they did for our family car.

Instead they referred me to an insurance company that specializes in bikes and ebikes. I bought a policy from them and sleep a little better for it.

I’ve heard similar stories from other ebike owners. And I’ve heard worse.

What can happen without ebike insurance

The saddest stories are the ones where someone assumed their homeowners or renters or car insurance covered their ebike, and after it was stolen or seriously damaged, it turned out it wasn’t covered.

"And then there are the stories about people whose ebikes were covered by their homeowners policy, but their premium went way up when they made a claim for a stolen ebike."
-Kyle Miller, CEO Brass Hands

Why it’s hard to insure an ebike

When it comes to insurance, ebikes land in a gray area outside standard homeowners insurance and auto insurance. Here’s why:

 • Ebikes are new in terms of the insurance industry. Most of the several million ebikes in the U.S. were purchased in the last two years. Insurers aren’t familiar with them, and insurers don’t like to be surprised by unfamiliar products.
 • Ebikes are more expensive than regular bikes. Policies that cover bikes, like most homeowners or renters policies, might have also covered ebikes until the insurer had to pay much larger claims than they expected to replace a damaged or stolen ebike. See above about insurers and surprise. So some policy terms got changed.
 • Finally, ebikes get stolen a lot, and not only from people’s homes. They are ridden and locked up outside all over the place, which makes them more vulnerable than other valuable household items.

Steps to take to properly insure your ebike

The odds that your ebike is covered by your existing insurance is lower than you may think. Here’s what to do to find out if you need ebike insurance:

 1. Call your insurance company and find out what they cover. Things to bring up: coverage of accidental damage, theft, and travel (like what would happen if you flew somewhere with your bike and the airline did a number on it). Does the insurance company consider your ebike a “luxury item”? If you’re happy with the coverage, great! You’re good to go.
 2. Consider bike-specific coverage. If you aren’t covered, or feel like the coverage you do have isn’t enough, here are some things to think about.

Bike insurance covers all kinds of bike specific things, not just theft. Think damage to the bike from a collision, medical payments if you are injured in a collision, insurance for the bike if you are traveling with it or racing it, or a bike rental while your bike is being repaired. Some policies even cover things like accessories (like bike lights and panniers) and riding clothes.

Bike claims won’t affect your other insurance premium. Should you need to make a claim on your ebike, your home insurance premium won’t change or get canceled.
